It is critical to choose hiking boots that provide above the ankle support and avoid low-cut shoes, sneakers, and sandals. The soles of the boots need to have good grip and not cause you to slip in wet conditions. Firm leather boots can be purchased at most outdoor sporting supply stores.
Avoid fleece-lined boots. Once the fleece becomes wet, the boots need a considerable time to dry.
It is most important to gradually break in your boots before any serious trip.
Purchase your new boots in late afternoon on the purchase date. It would be wise to wear two pairs of socks when having your boots fitted. The thickness of these two pairs of socks should be similar to what you plan on wearing when hiking.
